In dieser Azure DevOps Nugget Blogserie werden alle zwei Wochen Features von Azure DevOps vorgestellt, die für Sie möglicherweise neu sind und die Arbeit mit Azure DevOps effizienter machen.

Bei der Arbeit in Azure DevOps wird oft übersehen, dass Work Items auch Parents haben und deren Status sollte ebenfalls den aktuellen Stand der Arbeit widerspiegeln:
- Beim Start der Arbeit soll der Parent “aktiviert” werden.
- Beim Abschluss aller Work Items soll der Parent auf Resolved oder Closed gesetzt werden.
Dies lässt sich in Azure DevOps leicht automatisieren. Dazu das entsprechende Backlog aufrufen und in den Settings (⚙️) den Eintrag “Rules” (unter “Automation”) öffnen. Hier kann ein Teamadministrator die entsprechenden Regeln aktivieren (siehe Screenshot). Wird nun eine Statusänderung im Backlog, Board oder Work Item vorgenommen, werden die Regeln im Hintergrund ausgeführt und der Parent angepasst.
Hinweise: Die Regeln können pro Backlog Level (Epic, Feature, …) konfiguriert werden.

When working in Azure DevOps, it is often overlooked that work items also have parents and their status should also reflect the current progress:
- When starting work, the parent should be “activated”.
- When all work items are completed, the parent should be set to Resolved or Closed.
This can be easily automated in Azure DevOps. To do this, open the backlog and in the settings (⚙️) select the “Rules” entry (under “Automation”). A team administrator can activate the corresponding rules (see screenshot). If a status change is made in the backlog, board or work item, the rules are executed in the background and the parent updated.
Notes: The rules can be configured per backlog level (Epic, Feature, …).
